PADI Tec 50 Diver

You have completed the PADI Tec 45 course and have entered the ranks of technical divers. As with all technical divers, you have the need of progression programmed in to you, so it's time to get deeper for longer with the PADI Tec 50 course!

The structure of this course is very similar to the previous technical diving courses you attended, the main difference being the extra stage cylinder you will be using for decompression.

You will go through rigorous training on a practical side by once again going over past skills and getting new ones. You will also get back to the theory where you will learn even more functionality within the decompression software (http://www.hhssoftware.com/v-planner/).

If you are looking at taking your technical diving experiences deeper for longer, then this course is for you.

  • Be a PADI Tec 45 Diver (or hold a qualifying certification from another organization)
  • Be a PADI Rescue Diver (or hold a qualifying certification from another organization)
  • Have a minimum of 100 logged dives, with the following criteria:
    1. 20 dives must be below 18 metres while using Enriched Air Nitrox
    2. 15 dives deeper than 30 metres, you can do this with or without Enriched Air Nitrox
  • Have a medical form signed by your physician

Day 1 - Introduction and Theory: You will be given a print out with questions that will be based on the materials you received during the PADI Tec 40 course. These questions will then need to be answered at your own time and brought with the next time you meet your Instructor at our Simon's Town facility just outside Cape Town.

Day 2 - Theory and Skill Development: You will meet with your instructor in the morning and thereafter you will do a dive with all technical diving equipment in the pool or at a shallow dive spot such as the SS Clan Stuart (link).

Day 3 - Skill Development: Day 3 always stays on form during technical diver training. During this day you will do 2 dives to some of the best spots around Cape Town. During these dives you will be assessed on your understanding of what it takes to be a PADI Tec Deep Diver.

Day 4 - Assessment: On your last day of practical assessment you will need to, just like with all other PADI Tec courses, demonstrate that you can safely conduct a dive to 50 metres using decompression software (http://www.hhssoftware.com/v-planner/). If all went according to standards you will be certified as a PADI Tec 50 diver!

Theory

The theory will run exactly as it did during your PADI Tec 40 and Tec 45 courses. You will receive a handout on the first day that you will need to go through and complete.

Only once you have completed all the questions covered in the handout will you be ready to meet for your first practical session with your Tec Deep Instructor.

You will need to go over all the material with your Instructor and cover all the points you did not understand.

Once all theory is marked and both you and your Instructor agree that you are ready, you will progress to writing the Tec 50 Exam. You will need to complete the exam with a minimum score of 75% to pass the theory segment of this course.

Skills Development

During the skill development portion of this course you will need to complete 3 dives.

Your first dive will be done either at our pool in Simon's Town or it will be conducted as a shallow dive to a nearby dive site such as the SS Clan Stuart (link). During this dive you will refresh previously learned skills and also get comfortable with new skills and equipment.

Your next two dives will be done on day 3, these dives will be to 24 metres and 40 metres. During these dives you will be given the problems to solve and scenarios to complete. Both dives will be done from a boat.

Assesments

Your assessment will be done on your final day of the course. During this part of the program you will need to demonstrate an understanding of all the work covered up to this point. Both the Tec 40 and Tec 45 skills will also be tested and absolute mastery needs to be demonstrated during the final dive. Your dive will be to 50 metres, where we will have a mission that you need to lead.

Once the dive is done and everything ran fluidly and safely, you will be certified as a PADI TecRec Tec 50 Diver!
