DESCRIPTION
The PADI Diver Propulsion Vehicle (DPV) course introduces divers to the safe and effective use of underwater scooters to increase range, efficiency, and enjoyment while diving.
Prerequisites
PADI Open Water certification (or equivalent) and minimum age of 12.
Cost
R12 000. Dive gear rental not included. DPV is included.
DPVs allow divers to cover greater distances with reduced effort, making them particularly useful for shore-based diving, exploration, and managing current.
The course focuses on practical skills and real-world use, including DPV setup and handling, trim and buoyancy while operating a scooter, speed control, towing techniques, and battery and equipment management. Emphasis is placed on maintaining awareness, buddy positioning, and gas management while using a DPV.
Training is conducted in controlled conditions and open water, with dives planned according to diver experience and environmental conditions. Shore-based dives are used wherever possible, with alternative sites selected if conditions require. Throughout the course, divers learn to integrate DPV use into safe, well-planned recreational dives.
On completion, divers earn the PADI Diver Propulsion Vehicle certification, allowing them to use DPVs on recreational dives worldwide. This course is well suited to divers in Cape Town looking to extend their dive range and explore sites more efficiently while maintaining strong fundamental diving skills.
