DESCRIPTION
The Drysuit Diver course introduces divers to the safe and effective use of drysuits for cold-water and extended-duration diving.
Prerequisites
PADI Open Water certification (or equivalent) and minimum age of 12.
Duration
4 days
The course focuses on buoyancy control, trim, thermal management, and problem-solving while diving in a drysuit, with an emphasis on developing comfort and control rather than rushing progression.

Training is completed over six dives, starting with two confined water sessions in the pool to establish foundational drysuit skills. On pool days, training continues with an additional shore dive in the ocean, allowing skills learned in confined water to be applied immediately in open-water conditions.

The remaining dives are conducted as shore dives along Simon’s Town, where conditions allow. If ocean conditions are unsuitable, training is completed at Blue Rock Quarry, providing a controlled alternative without compromising skill development. Throughout the course, divers focus on managing buoyancy using the drysuit, controlled ascents and descents, emergency procedures, and effective gas and thermal management.

On completion, divers earn the PADI Drysuit Diver certification, qualifying them to dive in drysuits worldwide. This course is well suited to divers in Cape Town looking to extend their local diving season and build confidence in colder water environments.
