The PADI Enriched Air (Nitrox) Diver course teaches certified divers how to safely plan and dive using oxygen-enriched breathing gases of up to 40% oxygen. Nitrox is commonly used in recreational diving to increase no-decompression limits and reduce overall nitrogen exposure when diving within recreational limits.
The theory portion of the course is completed online in advance via the PADI eLearning platform, including the exam. This covers oxygen exposure limits, analysing Nitrox cylinders, dive planning, and setting dive computers for enriched air.
The practical session is run over one day, usually on the last Saturday of each month, and takes place at Blue Rock Quarry near Somerset West. The focus is on real-world Nitrox use, including analysing and logging gas mixes and correctly configuring and using dive computers during the dive.
On completion, divers earn the PADI Enriched Air (Nitrox) Diver certification, allowing the use of Nitrox up to 40% oxygen worldwide. This course is well suited to divers in Cape Town who want to dive more efficiently while staying comfortably within recreational limits.
